ABOUT

WILLIAM G., ONE OF MY MANY BOYFRIENDS

Hi, I’m Heather. I’m an alcoholic, sober 32 years.  And a Catholic convert. And my vocation is writing. You can find my main website and blog  HERE.

One day you might read a post on Joseph Cornell's boxes, the next a research project on where to buy cheap toilet paper, and the day after that an impassioned plea called "The Homily I'd Give If I Were a Priest" (hint: if you're not in close contact with at least one stripper, one person who's just been released from the psych ward, and someone who's trying to kick meth, you're not getting out enough). I also write books--lots and lots of books--about my stumbling, tragicomic, journey.

TONY, ONE OF THE MANY OTHER GOOD
FOLKS WITH WHOM I WALK THE PATH!

As Flannery O'Connor observed: “I am a Catholic not like someone else would be a Baptist or a Methodist, but like someone else would be an atheist.” In other words, Catholicism is no mere intellectual exercise. It’s the standpoint from which the believer lives, breathes sees, hears, smells and experiences reality. My books thus range in subject from addiction to vocational crises, conversion, food, money, cancer,  unrequited love, prayer and healing from abortion.

I write a weekly column on arts and culture--which again, covers, a wide, wide spectrum. I write a monthly column on unsung saints. And I'd love to help you write your own stories, reflections, novels--so we can all better understand what it means to be human.
